I recently sat down with Sonya Laurenssen, one of the owners of Jusu. I wanted to learn more about the history of Jusu, and what truly inspires the brand based on Vancouver Island.
Sonya shares a bit of the history of Jusu, starting out initially as a juice company in 2013. Jusu, being the Japanese word for juice, was founded by Bruce Mullen. His inspiration was to help people live better and healthier lives. Following the passing of his wife, due to breast cancer, Bruce dedicated his life, to helping other control their own health and wellness. Jusu started as the first cold press juice bar in Victoria, BC, however in 2017 a serendipitous event brought about Jusu Body. The pulp created by the juice bar was upcycled into the foundation of the Jusu Body line of product, which included body, face and hair products, which has since further expanded into a line of home cleaning products as well.
Throughout the discussion Sonya and I talk about the various products in the Jusu line, from their decadent face products, designed for all different types of skin; to their body products which smells fantastic and leaves your skin and hair feeling fantastic, with a subtle scent; to their powerful line of home cleaning products, which are again all natural, but highly effective on even the toughest messes.
We finish off by talking about some new changes in the future - including dropping their prices, to make the products even more accessible to everyone. We have received a lot of feedback from our customers and those that shop at our local vendor events, that the prices of the Jusu products are very good, so we are excited to roll out the price reductions to further support these products reaching more Canadians during a time when prices simply seem to be increasing all the time.
Finally, some developments for 2024 including ongoing improvements to products; the team seems to always be working to improve their current formulations, while continuing to look at expanding products and scent options as we move through the year.
