I sat down with Lindsay Lizmore, the founder of Aoife Naturals, to first understand how to pronounce the name of her company, but more importantly understand what inspired her to start Aoife (pronounced eefa; Gaelic for radiant, beauty)
Through our discussion Lindsay explains that she found it increasingly difficult to find high quality hair products that had quality ingredients, but more specifically quality ingredients that you could pronounce, and were from natural sources. Additionally, Lindsay is focused on finding ingredients that are sustainable, as well as ethically sourced.
She started with a few products, but has now grown her product line to over 70 products, ranging from her flagship products focused on hair, including of course shampoo and conditioners, but also bars, treatments, and sprays. If friends ask her about a specific type of product they are considering, she researches it and ultimately works to figure out how to make it. Branching out to lip balms, cuticle oil, brow serum, to even a formulation specifically designed for tattoos.
Lindsay is not only focused on making great products, she believes strongly that hair stylists should help their clients to understand the products they use on their hair, and why a stylist may recommend a specific product over another. She takes this approach with her products as well, carefully researching each ingredient she includes in her formulations, and shares that knowledge openly on her website.
